{"id":2923,"date":"2022-12-19T17:29:50","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T17:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.andrewwickscreative.co.uk\/clients\/nsif-dev\/?post_type=news&#038;p=2923"},"modified":"2026-03-17T14:56:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T14:56:46","slug":"amazing-achievements-of-2022","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.andrewwickscreative.co.uk\/clients\/nsif-dev\/news\/amazing-achievements-of-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazing Achievements of 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having been cooped up due to Covid-19 for the past couple of years, 2022 has seen a comeback of organised events, and our amazing supporters have certainly made the most of it, raising vital funds for nsif to help us to continue to reach our goal of finding a cure for paralysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angela and John Pye<\/strong> continue to do amazing work for <strong>nsif,<\/strong> running the Hull and East Riding branch of the charity.\u00a0 They have successfully raised over \u00a32600 this year through various donations over the course of the year and more recently a staggering \u00a3470 was raised through raffling a wonderful festive M&amp;S hamper, kindly organised by her niece, Miss Jess and the Fleur Elizabeth Academy of Dance where she teaches.\u00a0 John and Angela have already started making plans for their next regular fundraising event\u00a0 &#8211; The 2023 Bridge-to-Bridge cycle. This challenge sees them taking on a route from the Humber Bridge to another bridge somewhere in the UK.\u00a0 Previous excursions have been made to the Severn bridge (262 miles) and the Forth bridge (300 miles).\u00a0 The &#8220;Bridge&#8221; theme relates to the basis of the treatment that is being researched\/funded via nsif, which looks to bridge the damaged area of the spine to facilitate nerve regrowth and restoration of function to SCI patients.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the Pyes for their continued support.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fundraisers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span class=\" author-d-1gg9uz65z1iz85zgdz68zmqkz84zo2qowz80zsz69z0211qz74zbz86z3xz83z66wz84zz77z1dez67zfwnz70zw7c7\">Earlier this year <strong>Ross<\/strong> kindly stepped in at short notice to fill our London marathon charity place.\u00a0 With less time than most to prepare Ross m<\/span><span class=\" author-d-1gg9uz65z1iz85zgdz68zmqkz84zo2qowz80zsz69z0211qz74zbz86z3xz83z66wz84zz77z1dez67zfwnz70zw7c7\">anaged to complete the 26.2 mile course in just 3 hours 40 minutes, and raised a massive \u00a33800 in the process.\u00a0 A HUGE well done to Ross from all of us at <strong>nsif<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2905\" author-d-1gg9uz65z1iz85zgdz68zmqkz84zo2qowz80zsz69z0211qz74zbz86z3xz83z66wz84zz77z1dez67zfwnz70zw7c7\"><strong>at Derrick<\/strong> tackled the Stafford Half Marathon in March of this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mat described himself as &#8216;not a runner&#8217;, but was looking for a challenge and decided to apply for his local half marathon that he&#8217;s stood and applauded for many years.\u00a0 \u00a0Mat said &#8216;I was inspired to raise money for <strong>nsif<\/strong> having been fortunate enough to be able to sit and listen to the unbelievably inspirational Claire Lomas whose triumph over adversity has put many things in my life into perspective&#8217;.\u00a0 Mat trained through the winter and gradually upped the distance by running with a very supportive group of friends who spurred him on.\u00a0 He successfully completed the course, raising over \u00a3400 for <strong>nsif<\/strong> in the process.\u00a0 We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Mat for supporting our charity and helping us to continue to fund the life changing research work that will one day help those on the journey back from serious spinal injuries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" Eton College successfully took on and completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge.\u00a0 The boys, led by <strong>Oscar,<\/strong> are all members of the Shackleton Society.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the year Oscar took it upon himself to contact our patron Claire Lomas,\u00a0asking her to speak at one of their events at Eton College.\u00a0 Inspired by her talk they then went on to organise and take on the challenge choosing to raise money for <strong>nsif<\/strong> in the process.
