Last year (2016) was filled with an abundance of support from our various nsif champions, as always, The Christopher Tickle Fund has hugely contributed to the year\u2019s efforts. The Christopher Tickle Fund was founded after Christopher suffered a neck injury during a rugby scrum in 2009, sadly passing away three weeks later. Since then the fund has worked tirelessly to fundraise and support nsif.<\/p>\n

This year The Christopher Tickle Fund was honoured to, once again, be one of the chosen charities for Eccles Rugby Club. The club\u2019s rugby coach David Nicholls (coincidentally also the name of nsif\u2019s founder!), has managed an array of events throughout 2016 in support of The Christopher Tickle Fund. Events included The Club Dinner and Fashion Show, The Annual Cricket Match between Tyldesley Tigers and Eccles Rugby Club Cricket Team and The Annual Rugby Match in December.<\/p>\n

David also liaises with The Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) team.\u00a0 The DoE scheme was started at Eccles Rugby Club to honour Christopher Tickle after his posthumous Gold Award presented by Prince Philip.\u00a0 The scheme is a great way to encourage young people to take part in fundraising. \u00a0The first awards ceremony was held at Sale Sharks Rugby Club with Keith Tickle presenting the awards.<\/p>\n

Another supporter of The Christopher Tickle Fund last year was Kevin McConnell. Kevin took on the Ironman UK Challenge in Bolton, a triathlon comprising of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon. Kevin\u2019s incredible efforts are even more impressive considering he had to learn how to swim just months before the challenge! \u00a0A special thank you to Tribal Triathlon South Africa for providing Kevin with his kit, which certainly helped increase publicity for Kevin.<\/p>\n

The amazing feats from The Christopher Tickle Fund continued with Joan Wiper\u2019s Himalayan Challenge. The challenge saw Joan take on an arduous two-week trek spanning 55 miles. Joan braved extreme fluctuations of temperature and wild animals to raise over \u00a33,000 for nsif. You can read more<\/a> about her adventures here<\/a><\/p>\n
